Our Story

From Arid Soil to Sparkling Gold
We come from the sun-scorched lands of Kutch and Bhuj — a place where the soil, though limited in bounty, teaches resilience, patience, and purpose. For years, our family worked the land growing cash crops like groundnuts and castor oil, staying rooted in agriculture but always dreaming bigger.
Then came a turning point — the Indian government introduced date farming in Gujarat. Among the varieties, Barhi stood out. Having natural sugar, juicy, and golden, Barhi dates are best enjoyed fresh — a rarity in the world of dried fruits.

Why had no one turned this luscious fruit into alcohol?
That question stayed with me. In 2010, I bought land and planted the first Barhi saplings, knowing it would take five long years before they’d bear fruit. In that time, I travelled the world, curious about what people drank and what food they loved with it. And across continents, I kept hearing the same thing — nothing quite paired perfectly with alcohol.

That was the spark. What if there was a drink that changed that?
Barhi mead began as an experiment and slowly evolved into an obsession. A drink that would be 100% natural, gluten-free, with no added sugar, and most importantly, something that actually paired well with food. The problem? Barhi dates alone couldn't ferment into alcohol. But when I blended them with honey — nature’s oldest ferment — it all clicked.

A modern take on mead was born — sparkling, fresh, smooth, and shockingly food-friendly.
It took me over 15 years to perfect the recipe. In 2024, the first batch of BARHI Mead was finally ready. I held quiet sampling sessions, unsure of how it would be received. But I watched people light up with that first sip. They weren’t just tasting a drink — they were experiencing a story, a journey from the soil of Kutch to the tables of London.
In 2025, we are now officially launching BARHI in London. It’s not just a drink. It’s a belief — that tradition and innovation can co-exist, that great things take time, and that something born from the desert can quench the world.
